Ilkay Gundogan Joins Barcelona as a Free Agent on a Two-year Contract
After helping Manchester City win the historic treble, midfielder Ilkay Gundogan will leave the club when his contract expires in June. According to the famous soccer media Fabrizio Romano, Gundogan has signed a two-year contract with Barcelona, with a one-year option attached.
Although Manchester City offered a one-year contract extension, the German international wanted a salary higher than the one offered by the club, opting instead to confirm a move to Spain in the coming days.
With Sergio Busquets leaving for the United States to play with Messi, Barcelona will need to make additions in the midfield. And Gundogan, who has played a big role in City's multiple title wins this season, will bring experience and depth to Xavi's squad.
