Cristiano Ronaldo Scored the Winning Goal in his 200th National Team Match
Cristiano Ronaldo, who is 38 years old, started as captain in Portugal's away match against Iceland in the Euro 2024 qualifier yesterday, becoming the first man to play 200 times for the national team. Before the match, the Portuguese legend received a Guinness World Records certificate.
The game was not easy for Portugal, even though they had more than 70% of the possession, but the stubborn defense from Iceland made them hit the goal only three times in the whole game. The balance of play finally changed in the 80th minute when Willumsson was sent off after receiving a second yellow card, leaving Iceland to continue the game with 10 men. 9 minutes later, Ronaldo continued to make history with his 123rd international goal when he scored from close range inside the box. After repeated confirmations by VAR, the goal was validated and Portugal won the match 0-1 with the goal, remaining at the top of Group J with a clean sheet.
