Neymar Makes Comeback for Al-Hilal After Year-Long Injury Absence
Brazilian forward Neymar has made a triumphant return to the pitch for Al-Hilal, appearing in a match for the first time in over a year following his recovery from a serious knee injury. The 32-year-old came on as a substitute in the 77th minute during Al-Hilal's thrilling 5-4 victory against UAE Pro League side Al-Ain in the Asian Champions League. This match marked a significant milestone for Neymar, who had been sidelined since October 17, 2023, when he sustained a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus in his left knee while playing for Brazil in a World Cup qualifier against Uruguay.
Neymar's return is a welcome sight for both his club and fans, especially considering his status as Brazil's all-time leading goalscorer. Following his injury, he underwent surgery in November 2023 and faced a lengthy rehabilitation process. In the brief moment he was on the field, Neymar nearly scored, coming close to finding the net during a counter-attack, but Al-Ain managed to regain possession and pull one back late in the game.
Since joining Al-Hilal from Paris Saint-Germain for a reported fee of around €90 million (£77.6 million) in August 2023, Neymar had made five appearances before his injury. His history of injuries, particularly in recent seasons with PSG, has raised concerns, but his comeback signifies hope for both Neymar and the club as they look to make an impact in their competitions moving forward.
