Fans Vote on Year-End Awards: Kane Tops Best Player, Dominates Best Newcomer Category
German media outlet "Bild" organized a large-scale reader poll during the Christmas holidays, amassing over 11,000 votes by midnight on December 26. Bayern Munich's striker Harry Kane surpassed last year's champion Musiala by a significant margin, claiming the top spot in the Best Player category. Despite joining the team only six months ago, Kane's lead was so commanding that "Bild" jokingly remarked that he had already secured his first "championship" at Bayern Munich. Sané, who had an outstanding performance in the first half of the season, secured the third spot, followed by Bayern Munich legend Müller in fourth. In a surprising turn, Neuer received 5% of the votes, landing him in fifth place.
Player of the Year:
Kane - 40%
Musiala - 20%
Sané - 15%
Müller - 10%
Neuer - 5%
In the Best Newcomer category, fans' choices were more definitive, with Kane receiving an overwhelming 93% of the votes.
Newcomer of the Year:
Kane - 93%
Pavlovic - 2%
Kim Min-jae - 1%, Lemar - 1%, Pérez - 1%, Frans Krätzig - 1%
The poll also included a category for the biggest disappointment of the year, and the results were not particularly surprising. Mane, who joined the team in the summer and left after just one season, topped the list, sharing the first place with compatriot Sarr. Notably, Lucas and Kimmich also made the list.
Biggest Disappointment of the Year:
Mane - 18%, Sarr - 18%
Briel - 17%
Lucas - 8%, Kimmich - 8%
When evaluating a player's transfer quality, it is essential to consider their performance, achievements, and tactical compatibility with the team. For Mane, his success at Liverpool attests to his capabilities and value, and Bayern's transfer policy has also seen success with other outstanding players. Therefore, categorizing Mane as one of Bayern's worst signings in recent years might oversimplify the assessment.
