GOAL!!! Messi Scored Game-winning Goal in Miami Debut
Argentine star Lionel Messi, who joined the team this summer, made his U.S. debut as Inter Miami traveled to CDSyC Cruz Azul in this morning's U.S. League Cup match.
Messi didn't start the game, but watched the first half from the bench, with Robert Taylor's goal giving Inter Miami a 1-0 lead going into the break. In the 54th minute of the second half, Lional Messi, the long awaited World Cup winner, finally made his debut for the team. He was given the captain's armband immediately after his entrance into the match. Sergio Busquets, his Barcelona teammate who also came to Miami in the summer, also made his debut.
The introduction of Messi and Busquets didn't immediately bring joy to the Miami fans, as home player Uriel Antuna scored in the 64th minute to bring the game back to a 1-1 draw. In added time, Inter Miami was awarded a free kick just outside the penalty area, and Messi showed his unrivaled skill in front of the fans, scoring into the top corner of the net to help his team win the game 2-1.
