Alexis Mac Allister (Brighton to Liverpool, £35 million)
For Brighton: Brighton supporters will undoubtedly feel a certain level of sadness as they achieved a sensational sixth place in the Premier League, with one key player set to depart—and unquestionably a sense of frustration as he is sold for less than his market value due to a buyout clause. As coach Roberto De Zerbi lamented, Mac Allister is also unlikely to be the only high-profile departure this summer. However, that's Brighton's whole approach: earning massive profits through low-cost acquisitions. It's a business model that has seen them secure European qualification for the first time in the club's history. To be fair, they did well to keep him after his exploits in Qatar, although replacing their top scorer from the 2022-23 season won't be easy—but if anyone can do it, it's Brighton and their strong transfer team. Grade: B
For Liverpool: A much-needed boost after the blow of missing out on Jude Bellingham. The Reds' struggles in the 2022-23 season were largely evident due to an aging midfield. Jürgen Klopp's team was in desperate need of rejuvenation, and Liverpool secured a hardworking, innovative, and versatile 24-year-old midfielder in Mac Allister—for "just" £35 million. We can really talk about a summer steal here. After all, the cost of Mac Allister's World Cup-winning teammate Enzo Fernandez was three times that! Grade: A+
